All of our choices have consequences, some may be positive or negative, and some may simply be a result of a behavior or choice that someone has taken. People face thousands of choices each day that have consequences. Even neutral actions like deciding if you want pie or cake for dessert has a consequence because you only get one dessert- but that does not mean it’s bad.

However, youth can face a harder time making decisions. They are not able to think through all of the results of their choices because that part of the brain is still developing. That means it is important for youth to surround themselves with people and activities that support their positive decision making and development.
